Yoga Pada Class Descriptions
YogaPada teaches Hatha Yoga classes in the tradition of Patanjali Yoga. The heart of our instructional format is rooted in the Classical Ashtanga Vinyasa Hatha Yoga tradition of the late Sri. Tirimulai Krisnamacharya, and the present day "Guru" of this tradition Sri. K. Pattahbi Jois. Classes carry a recognizable influence of the principles of B.K.S. Iyengar.
YogaPada teaches Yoga as a process of refinement. The experience moving from the gross to subtle, resistance to release....refinement of body and clarity of mind. In class students are encouraged to explore postures as the vehicle in which to realize the heart of the practice, the breath. It is here in the breath, or prana, that the seeds of meditation are planted, binding the attention from one posture to the next. The practice, upon reaching this level of maturity is meditation, sometimes in motion, sometimes in stillness until all experience whether difficult or easy, discomforting or pleasant, is embraced as the true essence of this innately transformational process.
Even though classes are demanding, we emphasize that the practice is not physical gymnastics, but a practice of the union of heart, mind, and spirit. Teaching the precision of alignment through anatomical detail -- the therapeutic as well as the physiological benefits of the practice are continually emphasized, creating an environment in which to nurture a long term sustainable approach to a "Life-Time" practice.
