Private Lessons - Individual Yoga Instruction

Through many years of teaching yoga, it has become apparent to me that the most dedicated and proficient students are those who have had private instruction on a regular basis. Students who have done private work have shown an increased capacity to transform major/minor injuries or limitations than those limited to the self/Mysore practice and led class formats. Private lessons provide a safer, more supportive environment to assist in that process. The practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is most therapeutic when coupled with this supportive approach.

Through the postures, breath, structural alignment, internal form, and synchronized movement, this form of Hatha Yoga involves specific techniques that make it a very powerful tool for healing structural, physiological, psychological and emotional ailments. To be of full benefit, these techniques must be learned, applied, and constantly refined throughout the lifetime of one's practice.

By working closely with a qualified instructor, one can learn the finer points of technique and inner form that make it possible to reap full benefits from our efforts. Learning in this more concentrated one-to-one format will also facilitate the creation of a foundational self practice as well as a deeper understanding for both Mysore and led class methods.

Private lessons may include, but is not limited, to the following:

  1. Knowledge to safely begin a practice as a complete beginner.
  2. Guidance on practicing when the Mysore format is unassisted.
  3. Specific techniques and key elements to enable a safe, sustainable, transformative daily practice.
  4. Healing from past injuries in a safe and effective manner.
  5. Appropriate modifications and progressive steps to develop a practice tailored to the individual.
  6. Apprenticing to become an instructor.
  7. Food preparation techniques to facilitate the yoga practice.
  8. Detailed study of the Yoga Sutras and Yoga Psychology.
  9. Development of a restorative and auxiliary practice.
  10. Detailed study of advanced sequencing.
