Our Teaching Methods
Classes at Yoga Pada offer a new approach to the ancient systems of Ashtanga and
Iyengar yoga adapted to modern lifestyles, yet deeply rooted in traditional
practice. The core of these classes is based on Yoga Chikitsa the first
or primary series of the Ashtanga
Vinyasa Yoga System of Sri. K. Pattahbi
Jois and the late Sri. Tirimulai Krisnamacharya both of Mysore India.
Classes are also strongly influenced by the yoga
systems of B.K.S. Iyengar. Precision to anatomical detail and the
therapeutic/physiological benefits are emphasized.
The instructors at Yoga Pada approach these two systems with an eye for integration.
The dynamic Ashtanga flow is taught with the careful eye for the articulation
described by B.K.S. Iyengar. In addition, the strong Iyengar emphasis
on alignment is a good foundation for further inquiry into the deeper
layers of the Ashtanga series. Students at Yoga Pada are encouraged to
cultivate a meditative precision as they move through the poses. Yogins
gradually build skills to allow them to take on challenges without injury.
